staying friends

Conner has been going to preschool this year with a lot of kids from all around our town and the neighboring town.  Most of them will not be at his elementary school, let alone his middle school or even high school.  He's very concerned about not seeing them again, so we decided to make him his very own "business card".  (It helps that mommy and daddy each have their own business card.)  I just made them using a digital pic & a label template in Word.  Then I printed them on cardstock and cut them.  He's going to bring them to school and pass them out before the last day.
(obviously I blocked out his last name & the rest of our phone number in the screen capture, but you get the idea)

Making & keeping friends is such a tricky thing... I've made contact with a few of the moms already anyway - but I like him being proactive about maintaining friendships that are important to him.

what a party!

Last night was my first official be the thread party. I would say it was a success! Everybody made at least one item - one girl made four and would have kept going except she had to get home so her husband could get to work!

Because I was so wound up about getting everything laid out nicely, and then people started showing up - this is the first picture I took. Everybody's hard at work already.

The funniest moment - someone asked me "Did you used to be a teacher?" Ha. what gave it away?!!!
I'm going to get busy on the final touches of people's projects - zig zag edges and everything - and then I'll start posting some pictures. Everybody did a great job!
I'm looking forward to my next party at the end of the month.

coming up

A couple fun things I'm excited to be a part of...

My first official be the thread PARTY! This Friday night a group of gals will be getting together at a friend's house for a sewing and decorating extravaganza.
When they get there, munchies and drinks will be served of course! But they're each going to get their own little party packet - a bag with paper, Sharpie, scissors, crafting instructions and tally sheet. (oh yeah, and my business card too)I'm thinking I might have to toss in a little piece of chocolate too. That always gets my creative juices flowing! It will be so much fun to see what everybody comes up with. I will of course, also be selling items from my ArtFire shop.

Spring Market - May 27th - It is hosted by Gretchen. She lives at 0s350 Ellithorp Lane in Geneva - if you're local, please stop by between 3:30 and 7:30. She makes bottlecap necklaces. I can't wait to see them! Nata-Leigh (my very 1st follower!) will be there with her Children's Party planning business.

If you are just a "virtual" friend - don't worry, here's your opportunity!!! Starting May 15th, the ArtFire Sew What Guild is hosting a "Pink & Green" Blog Tour. I'm not sure yet what my day is (she's still organizing) - but I'm going to have a giveaway! My first!

Last thing - I have a new button on the side! Just Something I Made is giving out free buttons and I snagged the email one - it was just too perfect. Now you don't have to look around, go to my profile, blah blah. It's just right there. Yay! (so the coming up part is I hope that there will be some fun emails coming up in my inbox!)

sugarfest 09

I have a friend with a passion for fondant. We decided to get together with another friend, our six kids, and start a new tradition. We named it Sugarfest.

We started with about 20 candy molds, 10 bags of melting chocolate, one cake, one batch of Rice Krispies, 4 colors of fondant, and I don't even know how many pounds of sugar.

The kids played in the room right off the kitchen and would roam in and out as the spirit moved them. I learned how to make fondant (YAY!! SO easy!!!) and my friend learned about the joy of Wilton melting chocolates.

We adorned Rice Krispies - perfect for the one little boy who has a dairy allergy. And pretty yummy for the rest of us, too! (so yummy they didn't even all make it to the photo shoot!)

We dipped Oreos & marshmallows. We painted the molds and made fancy candies.

And of course, we made our own cake pops. After the picture was taken we dipped the other sides of them for maximum cake coverage and chocolate enjoyment.

Best of all - I have a bunch of goodies ready to go for my daughter's 1st birthday party next weekend.

Luckily the weather behaved as well as the kids. We sent five of them out to play after tasting our goodies. The baby played inside and the three moms rested.
All in all - I would call it a successful day.

your turn!!!

A couple friends of mine wanted to give t-shirt making a try. Didn't they do a great job?

Adorable polka dot cupcake with felt heart on top.

Three guitars for her "rock star".
Plus a little heart "tattoo" of flames on the sleeve.

Silly sock monkeys for her silly monkey.
